I thought it would be worse.
Ta shi le hen ben = not really grammatical
Ta hen ben = better
you dont need SHI everytime you describe something. If its just an adjective then you dont use SHI, if its another noun (like IDIOT) then you can say SHI.
Example 1: TA HEN BEN = he is stupid
Example 2: TA SHI BEN DAN = he is an idiot
